I love this little baby gnome, all snuggled up. I’m happy to share my pattern with you so you can make some for your kiddos to play with. They are simple and use up scraps. You can buy the wood baby forms from lots of different places, but I got mine from here.
- wood baby form
- two different colors of felt scraps
- embroidery floss and needle
- baby gnome pattern
Start by painting or staining your wood form, if you want. Let dry completely.
Then cut out your swaddling clothes and heart from felt, using my pattern.
Place baby in the center of the part with the point and fold up the bottom flap, then right flap, then left flap so it covers baby. Note what the top is and whipstitch the heart to the top side of the left flap.
Then take your embroidery floss and start sewing at the bottom corner, next to the fold.
Blanket stitch the layers together and keep going all the way around.
Keep going even when you get to one single layer of felt (around baby’s face) so the felt has a nice finished edge. (You can sew the tip top of the point together, if you want, like in the first photo at the top of this page.) Stop when all edges are blanket stitched and you have reached the flap again. Knot and cut excess floss. Baby is ready for play or display!
