Advent: Getting Ready

Our Advent activities were rather simple this year: handmade gifts, hanging greens (we decorated our wreaths with a group of friends, which was lots of fun), putting out the Nativity, setting up our Christmas village.

(He got a letter from Santa, thanks to his Nana! He was so excited, he couldn’t hold the letter still.)

G also had preparing for the Christmas Eve pageant at church, and like last year, he was the Angel Gabriel. I may have been sewing his wings this morning. Ah hem.

We did add in colouring angels on our angel sheet we received at church (we did a couple angels every day) and moving Mary on our Advent Spiral. I think this was my favourite thing. As we moved Mary each day and added another wooden peg angel, moving her closer to Christmas Day, we said the words inspired by the angel Gabriel’s Annunciation: “Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.”

Her arms are empty for her walk during Advent, then on Christmas morning we add a baby Jesus figure to her arms.DSC_0018 DSC_0003 DSC_0017

It feels like Advent has flown by, and it is hard to believe tomorrow is Christmas. The Little One is asleep and the house is quiet, making me think of one of my very favourite carols:

Silent night, Holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon virgin, mother and child
Holy infant, tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace.

Silent night, Holy night
Son of God, love’s pure light
Radiant beams from thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus, Lord at thy birth
Jesus, Lord at thy birth.

Silent night, Holy night
Shepherds quake, at the sight
Glories stream from heaven above
Heavenly, hosts sing Hallelujah.
Christ the Savior is born,
Christ the Savior is born.

May you have a blessed Christmas Day.
