Art Workshops

DSC_0272This summer I am once again teaching workshops for FOVOPA. They are such a great organization, bringing all types of art to their local community. The two workshops I am going to teach are PomPom Creations and Doodles: from 2-D to 3-D.

The topic of PomPom Creations is kind-of self explanatory… we’re making different things out of handmade pompoms. Genius, I know. We’ll make some animals, flowers, and maybe a garland or other fun thing. (I have a PomPom Pinterest board for inspiration.) I am going to teach participants how to make pompoms without any fancy tools, too.

The other workshop, Doodles: from 2-D to 3-D, has people doing fun and quick drawings. After making some 2-D art (I will have suggestions and “guidelines” for doodle drawing), we will move on to doodling in the 3-D (on wood peg people). It should be lots of fun!

I love drawing on square paper. I think it helps your brain open up to a different way of thinking.

PS: Still without a computer, which is why I have been so quiet lately. Hope your summer is going well, though!

  1. If you like doodling, you need to check out the books on the art of Zentangle. You can even become a certified Zentangle teacher! Go to http://www.zentangle.com to learn all about it. There are several books out now with ideas and designs. You can draw Zentangles on everything from tennis shoes to cell phone covers.

Our quilt guild had a certified teacher come in for one of our meetings a couple of years ago. Learning to do the “tangles” helps machine quilters with their free-motion quilting. It’s also a great way to pass some time when you find yourself at the doctor’s office, a ball game, or stuck in traffic.
