Selfish Sewing Week: A New Bag!

Selfish Sewing Week is almost over! Have you been sewing along? I have had so much fun getting a few projects for myself done: infinity scarf, Bess top (my first article of clothing for me), ironing mat, and now, a new bag!

I really loved the bag I made for my aunt’s birthday, so I had been wanting to make one for myself. I did! I enlarged the pattern 150% because I want to use it for my new project bag-on-the-go and need plenty of room. I used an organic cotton blue arrow fabric from Cloud 9 (Across the Pond collection) and an orange and white flower fabric, both of which I had in my stash. The bag is fully reversible, although I intend to use the arrow side out.

I love it!

Did you get anything made for yourself this week?

  1. “Did you get anything made for yourself this week?” Yup. A big mess. But it’s almost finished (the sewing room), and THEN I can make something more fun. 😆 This is a cute bag – I’ve seen this pattern around but haven’t tried it yet. Is it hard to get into while carrying? I have an awful habit of trying to reach into my purse for things without taking it off my shoulder (lazy is what ‘some’ people have called it. what do they know! I call it efficient use of my efforts).

    • Because of the way the long handle slides through the short handle, it is definitely easier to get into the bag when it is not on your shoulder. You can do it, but it is a bit like rummaging in the dark!

And it sounds like that big mess is going to be worth it! 🙂

      • That’s how I rummage now, and my purse (one I made) is easy to get into…but I still just reach in and rummage while I’m looking at something else. Kinda like a kid looking for his socks in the morning. 😆
