Summer Mug Rug

I recently did a summer themed mug rug swap. My recipient said she liked blue and green, so I went with those colors for my mug rug. I used organic cottons and did some hand embroidering and hand quilting. Here is one side:

And here is the other:summer mug rug4 summer mug rug3

I think flowers and lady bugs scream “summer.” I received word my recipient really liked the mug rug (and the hand embroidery), which I am very happy about.

Here is the one I received:

It’s a watermelon! So fun and such a cute idea.

  1. very cute, both of them – I make these too, and love them. Great way to use up those cherished scraps that I have such trouble throwing away.

  2. Hi! I love the concept of mug rugs and to participate in a swap is a nifty idea. I’m curious as to the dimensions. I want to make some for a few friends and am getting ideas before I begin.

    • Mug rugs can really be any size you want, so long as they hold your mug and a little snack. If I am making a rectangular one, I generally make them around 8″ by 6″, but I let my scraps dictate my project size, too! Have fun sewing one up (although you probably won’t be able to stop at one). 🙂 Oh, and I found out about the swap by joining a sewing group on Swap-bot.
