I made my first pair of kid’s pants! Sew Jereli put out a call for pattern testers for a quick & easy pants pattern she made, and I jumped at the chance. I had hoped to be more on the ball with the Kids’ Clothing Week Challenge, but I just have too much going on right now. This pattern test was the perfect way to make sure I made at least one thing this week! The pattern was easy to work with and my son has declared that he “never wants to take these pants off, they are so cozy.”
Even though they have lots of imperfections because I am a very novice clothing maker, my little guy happily does not notice such things. I admit I was stressing about all the imperfections in his handmade pants (and I started to list them all out here, so you would know I realize all the “wrongs”), but his joy helps me remember that perfect isn’t what matters– happiness is. It also helps me to remember that sure, I could have gone to the store and bought a “perfect” pair of pants, but instead I made these and that act of making was filled with love for my little one.
The fabric is a robots and rockets cotton. I think it is by Riley Blake, if I remember right. I’ve had it for a couple years.
I added a snazzy green button to the front waistband. It’s purely decorative and I like the punch of lime green. I also did some zany stitching at the hems. I like zany stitching.
