April Showers Blog Hop! Plus a giveaway

Welcome to Day 2 of the April Showers Mug Rug Blog Hop! Thank you to Sew at Home Mummy and Sew We Quilt for organizing and hosting the hop. I am so delighted to be participating because I love mug rugs and I love rain. Perfect, eh?

First I was going to make a mug rug using some of my rain fabric, but then I decided I wanted to do something less literal. So I designed this little mug rug around the quote “Count your rainbows, not your thunderstorms.” I began by making a contemporary and very modern rainbow, using some of my favorite fabrics (lots of Quilt Blocks by Ellen Luckett Baker). I paired this with a gorgeous charcoal grey linen. Then I hand embroidered on the quote.

(I turned that rectangle strip into a bookmark.)

From there, I stitched it all together with felt for a lining and a grey and white pinstripe for the backing.

I love it!

I also had one square of some sweet Wellingtons fabric– the perfect starting point for another mug rug. I combined that with a yellow polka dot and a blue square of the Quilt Blocks fabric, and voila! Another mug rug with a rainy theme.

I love the rain, so this one captures the happy feeling a rainy day brings me. My Wee One and I love puddle jumping in our rainboots on rainy days.

Now for the giveaway!

I put together this little kit to make two generous sized coasters. There’s enough fabric for fronts and backs, plus felt for lining.

  3. I like that quote. Both of your mug rugs look great! If it’s a warm rain, sometimes I like to go out for a walk in the rain. Otherwise, I like to be cozy inside.

  4. What fun mug rugs! I love that fabric with the boots, and the coordinating fabrics that you choose.

  5. I love rainy days too. I love walking in the gentle showers, but on heavy thunderstorm rain, curling up with a book and quilt is delightful.

  6. Very adorable mug rugs! I like to cuddle under a quilt and nap on rainy days. Unfortunately, it doesn’t rain often here.

  7. I like the quote you used. I love to watch a thunderstorm come rolling in. Afterwards, I like to curl up and read a good book or if it is not too windy, go for a walk and enjoy the fresh air after the rain.

  8. If I’m in the country I like to have my sewing machine near a window and sew while watching the rain, and not feel guilty about not doing something outside.

  9. I had never heard that saying before. I’ll definitely have to remember it. Loved your mug rugs. Thanks

  10. Great mug rugs, I love the rainboots. When its a rainy day, I like to look at my flower books or seed catalogs.

  11. Wonderful mug rugs! That saying is a perfect reminder for a person even on ‘good’ days. The wellington fabric is ideal. Best rainy day activity…ha, well, sewing/quilting, of course. 🙂

  12. Love your mug rugs! Thanks for sharing with us! On rainy days, I like to quilt &
do embroidery. Thanks for the chance to win!

  17. Great mug rugs and what a nice sentiment, too! As far as favorite rainy day activities, well, I live in Oregon and rain is a pretty constant thing. I love a long walk on a misty morning and an afternoon by the fire…quilting, of course!

  18. What a beautiful saying, I haven’t heard it before. I love that you stitched it on your rug. Nice fabrics on both rugs.

  19. super cute, thanks for the chance. I love to read during the rain, but also it is a great time to quilt

  20. Your rugs are wonderful! The rainbow/thunderstorm quote was new to me, good one to try and follow. On a rainy day I like to make soup and then curl up under a quilt with a good book while it is simmering away. Thanks for sharing.

  26. I love them both. Very creative designs. You did a wonderful job putting those together. Rain – since we don’t get enough of it here, and it doesn’t last long when we get rain – well, what we do is get excited, drop everything and watch it until it’s over. While I love rainboots and umbrellas I really HATE rain. It was nice when we lived in Albuquerque because it rarely ever rained. Give me sunshine every day and I’ll be happy. It can rain at night when I’m asleep and don’t know it. Thanks for the list of othere swappers. Can’t wait to check them out.
