Handmade bookmarks

Do you know about Swap-Bot? If you like swaps, I think the site could be very addicting! I signed up for a couple swaps, one of which was a handmade bookmark swap. The person I was assigned loves tea and her favorite color is red, so I made her these two bookmarks (you only had to do one but I was having fun!).

The one on the left uses a patterned cotton with a tea/hot beverage motif. I cut a piece that had lots of tea references, stitched it to a piece of thick felt, added some hand-dyed silk ribbon as a “tassel”, then did some machine stitching around a few tea cups.

I think the back looks neat, too.

The other one used a couple different fabrics, plus some hand embroidery. I just sketched out a tea cup, then embroidered on my sketch. I added some zigzag quilted stitches in the polka dots, too.DSC_0058

The back is a red & white patterned cotton.DSC_0056

I hope my swap recipient likes them!

  1. I am not a tea drinker, but might have to change that just because these are so darling. Love your handiwork!

  2. Great job!!! As a tea drinker I would LOVE to have been sent these bookmarks. Where the dimensions of the bookmark given with the swap rules or were you allowed to do whatever size you preferred?

    • Thank you, I am glad you like them! The swap was really open and you were allowed to make any size so long as it was “suitable for a bookmark.” 🙂 I made mine roughly 2.75 by 8 inches.
