It’s All About Me! blog hop & giveaway

Welcome to my contribution in the “It’s All About Me” blog hop! Thank you to Marlene and Madame Samm for organizing! Thanks, too, to Amy Bradley for sharing her pattern we got to work with.

Usually I am a pretty strict pattern follower (if I use a pattern, that is), but for this blog hop it was emphasized that we could totally give it our own spin– change the hair, the shirt, make it big, make it small, etc, so I went for it! I followed the basic body form with just a little tweaking, then changed up the head & hair so it looked more like me (it is all about me, after all!). I reduced the pattern to super tiny (a couple inches) and turned it into a mug rug.

This is the back.
DSC_0031 Here’s a close-up.

I picked fabrics that reflect my likes (birds and polka dots), did fusible applique like Amy talks about in her pattern, added some hand embroidery for the face, incorporated felt letters (Tea! since it is for a mug rug), and then a little quilting after the whole thing was sewn together. It was fun to make, and I look forward to using it with my next mug of tea!

The pattern was easy to work with and was also easy to edit to make the person look more like me. You should definitely check out Amy Bradley’s patterns! I think this baby quilt one is so cute!

  2. I like polka dots, too! You are very creative. The mug rug is adorable. I like how you personalized to make it YOU! Shrinking the pattern down was a wonderful idea. You are very generous with your giveaway. Thanks for participating and inspiring us. I am learning so much. I would not have thought to use felt for the letters. Thanks, again.1

  3. Really enjoyed your mug rug. This is my first visit on a blog hop and I thoroughly enjoyed it and learned a lot. Thank you for sharing! Jo

  4. Its been so fun to see original variations of Amy’s pattern. You did a nice job with yours. And thanks for tipping us off on the free pattern that Amy offers.

  5. That’s so cool that you decided to shrink down your gal to mug rug size. I love how you made her your own. Thanks for the chance of the giveaway.

  6. Love your mug rug. The changes made it a YOU!

I have actually made that Baxter the Scottie for Amy’s Dazzling Dog set substituting for one that I didn’t like near as much. Those blocks have still not made it to a quilt but someday they will!

Following on facebook if that counts.

  7. What a great idea to reduce the pattern and make a mugrug!
    I love it!
