Christmas Cheer

We’ve been Christmas caroling it, Christmas book reading it, and Christmas themed toys playing it over here! I thought I would share a few of our favorites with you…

For music, ANYTHING sung by Bing Crosby. I love that man and his voice. He is definitely the voice of Christmas. The Wee One loves Frosty the Snowman. Sung by anyone.

For books, these are some new favorites we have discovered.

Grumpy Badger’s Christmas is adorable! The illustrations are beautiful, and the story is sweet and has a good moral (but is delivered in a low-key, kid-friendly way). The Wee One had me read this over and over. And he fell in love with this little mouse house illustration and we now have to build our own.

These ones are classic Christmas stories (by this I mean they are a version of the nativity story).

We were going to read the Christmas Stories for Little Angels in pieces, one story a day for a few days. Except we ended up reading three in one night because G didn’t want me to stop reading. Christmas in the Barn is nice, but the Nativity scene is set in the New England countryside, which (I admit) slightly bothered me because there was snow everywhere. You can think I am weird, that’s fine. Little Owl and The Star was told from the perspective of… you guessed it, an owl and a star. The Owl gets to see the Baby Jesus close-up, while the star stays in the sky. The illustrations were neat and very modern.

These three are really great, with nice illustrations and a beautiful story. I love crows, so had to check out Merry Christmas, Merry Crow. Throughout the story the crow is gathering up scraps and little things to decorate the birds’ tree. Reindeer Christmas is about a Gram and kids who feed the animals in the forest behind their house every winter and one late December night end up finding a reindeer. They nurse him back to health and he ends up being one of Santa’s reindeer. The illustrations have an old fashioned feel because of the coloring. I’m going to write a separate post about Just Right for Christmas, but know that I loved this one! It features cute illustrations, sewing (yea!), handmade gifts, and being resourceful. What’s not to like?

And I have to share a couple pictures of the Wee One’s new favorite thing to play with. I had picked up this Playmobil Advent Calendar a year or two ago and now he is big enough to play with it– he loves it! And I love watching him be so happy.
