Today’s advent calendar activity is “Do something nice for someone else.” The Wee One and I decided we would do something nice for the Middl’n and made him his favorite kind of cookie bars, Brown Sugar Bars. They are pure sugar and terrible for you, so I don’t make then often, which makes them a real treat for him. They are not for the faint of heart, and when you see the ingredients, you will see why. They are, though, quite delicious.
Brown Sugar Bars
(makes one 8×8″ square pan or round pan; double for a 9×12″ pan) (I slightly altered this recipe from the original recipe I received from a woman at my local farmer’s market.)
- 6 Tablespoons melted butter
- 1 and half cups brown sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 eggs (preferably at room temp; I never remember to take them out in advance so I just put them on the stovetop while the oven preheats and they warm up that way)
- 1 1/4 cups flour
- 1.5 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease pan.
Beat together eggs, vanilla, sugar. Add in butter. Then add in dry ingredients. Scoop into prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes. Let cool, then slice and eat.
Here’s some more pictures because I like taking pictures of food.
