Giveaway winner announced at the bottom!
Hi! If you are joining me from the Leafs Me Happy quilt blog hop, I hope you will check out some of my other posts & subscribe to my blog! (Many thanks to Madame Samm and to Cherry for organizing the hop!)
I love, love, love the Fall! Crisp air, scarf-wearing weather, orange & red leaves, and the feeling of anticipation in the air cannot be beat. One could say I enjoy bursting into fall each year, hence the name for the block I made.
I used the pattern pieces from this Lightning Bolt table runner from joanne.com, but gave it my own spin when putting it together.
First I cut out the pattern pieces and designed my block layout (finished block size 10.5 inches).
Then I cut out all of my pieces of fabric. I love the warm tones, acorns, and cute family/blessed theme of the fabrics I picked.
I sewed each small diagonal piece to a corresponding larger piece.
Then pressed the seams open.
Then I sewed the top left block to top right block and bottom left block to bottom right block, using my layout as a guide. (Press seams open.)
Then I sewed the bottom row to the top row and pressed the seams open.
Done! Did I mention how super quick and easy this block is?
I turned this quilt block into a hot pad/trivet (with a layer of insulated batting and regular batting in the middle) and made a set of coordinating coasters to send to my uncle and his new wife. I did some simple hand quilting on both, too. I think a new fall table set is just right to celebrate their wedding!
I really loved how quick and easy this lovely block came together, so I am working on a Christmas one, too. (Although I turned the angle of the blocks so this one is thick points going to thin points.)
