Today is Michaelmas, or the Feast of Saint Michael. It takes place on September 29th and is a lovely way to usher in Autumn. It kind of snuck up on me this week and I didn’t do a quarter of the things I wanted to and am not ready at all. Which means although the celebration is technically today, G and I will be enjoying Michaelmas a day this upcoming week instead. I thought today I would share a few of the great websites I found, plus some of the things we plan on doing.

Since St. George is the earthly representative of St. Michael, we’ll read the story of St. George slaying the dragon, plus my own addition of  Herb the Vegetarian Dragon. This is a book I bought years ago (complete with a Herb figurine!) and I love that it breaks stereotypes and deals with why some people don’t eat meat (I am a vegetarian, in case you didn’t know). To continue with the dragon theme, we’re going to try our hand at making something like this, except to attach to the Wee One’s bedroom window.

I will cut out the shapes and G can help attach the tissue paper. I think he will like this.

I’m also going to be making him a crown to wear (and maybe a cape), and since he’s really gotten into dress-up and imaginative play lately, I think he’ll love this!

Here are a few other links to some of my favorite resources I have found about celebrating Michaelmas, too. Just click on the picture to go to the source.

I’ll post pictures of what we actually do, once we do it!
