Celebrating Happy

I came across this online embroidery class by Amy Powers a couple weeks ago. It is called the “Happy Go Lucky Stitchalong” and has you thinking about what makes you happy, then creating imagery for those things and making a grid-style sampler to celebrate your happy things. I thought the class looked great, plus it only costs $10, so I shared the link with my mom and sisters. We’re all stitching along together, at our pace, in our own homes. I can’t wait to see what they come up with!

First thing you do is make a list of the things that make you happy. From everything big to everything small, just list it out. Here’s my list (in no particular order):

  • my family
  • my little sunshine– G
  • rain and clouds
  • cats
  • sewing
  • cocoa
  • baking
  • cake
  • sunshine
  • snow/winter
  • Christmas
  • British things
  • birds and nests
  • rainbows
  • trees
  • ocean
  • love
  • walks outside
  • gardening
  • mushrooms and gnomes
  • foxes
  • printmaking/art
  • stars in the night sky
  • fabric
  • home
  • sunset
  • acorns
  • music
  • trips to the library with my kiddo
  • jam (particularly raspberry)
  • photography

This was what I came up with after my first two rounds of brainstorming. I need to have 25 things because the sampler is 5 by 5 (each square is 1.5″). Then I started sketching some ideas of what I could stitch in each square to represent some of the things on the list. Here are my sketches:

I’m hoping my mom and sisters will share some piece of their projects with me so I can share them with you, too. Next step is drawing the grid on my fabric (linen) and redrawing the images on the fabric.
